TUTORING
Important components of our education program are our enrichment studies. We provide classes in Spanish for those students beginning school only having heard thier native Tz’utujil in their homes. When students fall behind in their studies for whatever reason, our scholarship students are required to attend mentoring classes to avoid being left behind. Additionally, instruction—beyond the traditional school curriculum—is offered in subjects as diverse as civil rights, nutrition, family planning, the environment, and the basic financial concepts necessary to succeed in their economy
COMPUTERS
During the pandemic, when schools finally re-opened, a majority of instruction was provided via the internet. Unfortunately, that put education out of reach for most rural students. In response, generous donors contributed a dozen laptops and GHA's first computer classes were launched. Since then, basic computer classes are routinely being offered to our students 9+ years old. The results have been spectacular, with many students gaining the basic computer skills necessary to join the information age as well as being able now to weather any possible future shuttering of school facilities.
